About

The context
Between 20% and 30% of Indian electricity consumption is used to heat water, which relies on fossil fuels like coal. By utilizing solar energy, families can save money, generate their own renewable electricity and avoid releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The project
The Nuetech Solar Water Heater Program delivers solar water heaters at reduced costs to local families, schools, hospitals, universities and businesses. To date, 91,124 have been installed throughout India, reducing CO2 emissions by 140,000 tonnes per year. It is the largest project of its kind in India.

The benefits:
This project has created 660 jobs, and businesses in the area, like silk factories, have benefited from a free, reliable source of hot water. Power cuts are commonplace in India but with solar water heating, families are guaranteed a source of hot water throughout the day, improving their quality of life. Lastly, Nuetech Solar is educating local people about how to take action on climate change.
