Number of Goals this project addresses

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

This project promotes the regeneration of over 11,000 ha of native forest.

Project highlights

  • The regenerated forest sequesters carbon to mitigate climate change.
  • This important habitat promotes biodiversity and provides important ecosystem services for the area.
  • Upgraded infrastructure has improved the business viability and resilience of the farm.

About

North Kerribree is located near Bourke, NSW and covers 11,293 ha of land.

When the farm property was purchased by the current owners, it had been hugely overgrazed, internal fences were non-existent, and there was barely any infrastructure in place to manage stock or feral animal populations.

Income from the project has funded the following infrastructure upgrades:

  • Installation of new fences, water points, machinery and shedding.
  • Around 30km of new boundary fencing.
  • Seven paddocks to rotate stock, plus cattle yards and trap yards.

As a result, the property is now a productive farm again. Furthermore, the pasture has improved because sections of the land can be left to seed, giving the grasses the opportunity to build up a strong root system, which in turn improves overall soil heath and productivity of the land.

Not only has this project regenerated native forest, it has also secured the future of the farm.
