The context
The rural areas in Sichuan Province are among the least developed in China. The average farmer household survives on $10USD per week. At present, there is a large amount of unused animal manure from local farms. This manure releases methane as it breaks down, which contributes to climate change.
The project
This project will provide up to one million low-income rural households with biogas digesters and efficient biogas cook stoves. These will enable households to convert pig manure into usable gas energy. This clean energy can be used for cooking, heating, or lighting instead of coal and firewood.
The benefits:
Besides reducing carbon emissions, this project improves the lives of nearly 1.2 million people, creating jobs, and providing clean, affordable energy.
